Make your passion count for something.
If you're passionate enough to whinge, you're passionate enough to stand up and help out.
Stop whinging about the leadership of your community theatre company and just begin helping out. Don’t do stuff to look good or only accept high profile jobs though. No one respects a volunteer that acts like they’re doing everyone a favour.
Avoid thinking “I’m here to show you how it’s done.” Trust me, it won’t endear you to anyone. There is true value in serving others.
Be ready for the tough times, the times when you question your choice. They’ll come.
Make the decision now to stick it out long enough to see an impact. Always remember that you’re working toward something bigger than any individual.
It’s about the future of your company; helping others participate; or just helping others have fun. Keep the why in front of you or it just becomes about the how and what, and that’s a JOB.
Be strong (YOU ARE) and courageous (YOU CAN).
Your theatre company needs you.
Do it with joy.
It’s so, so worth it.
