ENCOURAGE & EQUIP
Hello, you wonderful creative, you.
I'm so excited that you've found yourself here. Are you running the marketing for your community theatre company? Perhaps you're just curious about the person who's willing to admit that she can be An Idiot On Stage.
No matter the reason you're here, I want to encourage you in your community theatre life.
I'm Sherryl-Lee Secomb, a marketer helping community theatre organisations promote their creativity without burning out or wasting time on tactics that don't work in volunteer organisations.
I've been on stage since I was fifteen, I direct large scale musical theatre productions in South East Queensland and have served on the management of one of Queensland's largest community theatre organisations.
In other words, I get you. With my deep knowledge of the community theatre world and many years of marketing it - successfully - you no longer have any excuse for hiding your 'extraordinary'.
"I LOVE WHAT COMMUNITY THEATRE DOES FOR PEOPLE."
I grew up in rehearsal halls. My grandmother was an amazing theatre director and I spent hours watching her create plays and musicals, slowly building my own love of theatre. Stepping onto the stage at fifteen, I've enjoyed the privilege of working with many amazing people. I directed my first musical in 2010 and have since found the greatest joy in leading and collaborating with thousands of amazing local creatives. Together our productions have received an Australia Day Award and numerous Del Arte Charts recognitions. Download my biography for details.
A passionate advocate for community theatre, I created the blog, An Idiot On Stage, in 2014, purposed to “encourage and equip community theatre to expect more and be extraordinary”. I challenge my beloved theatre community to be strong and courageous, fierce and compassionate. Most importantly, I love to be a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously; to be An Idiot On Stage.
SO, WHY ARE YOU HERE TODAY?
Have you been charged with the marketing of your theatre company? Are you confused by where to begin? Perhaps you've been throwing a whole lot of social media content at your audience and not getting the impact you're expecting.
Remember why you got involved in community theatre. it was to create stories and share them with your community; to sing in concert with others who loved performing; to make society think by telling stories that challenge them.
You didn't get into theatre to be lost in the abyss that is marketing. But you do want to make an impact.
This is where I meet many creatives. I get it. I've done it and I've spent years taking standard marketing practices and developing a system that works for volunteer run community groups.
I can help you get organised. I can jump start your online presence. I can set you up with personalised templates for everything you're going to need to market your theatre company. I can even organise your photoshoots so that your photos give you credibility with audiences and journalists.
You don't have to struggle.
You can feel confident with your marketing.
Let me show you how.
